day 587 -birthday wishes

today, little darren had his birthday party, with cousins and friends. he had wanted a taro cake as it is his favourite. but of course, he was surprised by the design we had requested. that is 'sac boy' from his favourite game "little big planet".

day 586 - birthday!

today, little darren turns seven. i told him the story about how, on the day he was born, i visited him briefly in the hospital but had to leave right away, his big brother at the back of the van and i was driving like mad because i wanted to get back home and watch the finale of canadian idol.

he was surprised with the cake. he liked the idea of ice cream cones with ice cream scoops decorating his chocolate-chip-cookie-dough ice cream cake from baskin robins. i, of course, had been wanting to order this beautiful cake for ages but just couldn't find the reason. he had his official birthday cake (on us, his father's side) the next day.

day 510 - birthday flowers

what do you expect to get as gift when you turn 58? a car? an all expenses paid vacation? a new boyfriend perhaps? well, no one in my family or my inner circle of friends has much clout to afford any of those. because those are the only things i don't have. not that i'd want a car, i don't want the hassle of maintenance. i'd like an all-expenses paid vacation but i know i will have to come up with that myself. a new boyfriend is out of the question, and no, thank you very much. peace and quiet, are those too much to ask for? apparently not, because the hooligans kept calling since early this morning and ex-partner who lives across the hall 'had' to take me to lunch. next year, i'll have my birthday changed to a different date.

day 322 - a Christmas birthday cake

we celebrated our Christmas today, boxing day. the grands opened their presents, which were a ton, and helped grandpa blow his belated birthday cake, the ever favourite ube (taro)-macapuno (young coconut) cake, to cap the sumptuous lunch we had (which we forgot to take pictures of!).

day 84 - thirty-three (33) candles all in a row

..or all around the cake. this cake is a combination first communion for my grandson derrick and 33rd birthday for his father frederick. so this is how a cake looks like with 33 candles in them. i tell you, the the boys had a hard time blowing those candles for their father. it'll be harder, i guess, for a 90-year old to be blowing cake candles....
