day 51 - gloomy morning

the sun is fighting to come out from behind the heavy morning clouds. it foretells of heavy snow. NOT!!! well, it turns out to be a beautiful sunny day after all.

day 50 - another flower arrangement

beautiful flower arrangements always adorn our office reception area and i've been meaning to take photos of them, and today i had the opportunity to do so. this is not as splendid as last week's but it is still a very elegant arrangement.

day 49 - the CN tower

walking along front street in downtown, toronto, i glanced back at the orange poster but the tower caught my attention. it's like "peek-a-boo"! - still don't have internet (i'm just actually stealing signal from some kind souls - thank you whoever you are) and it's like quitting smoking cold turkey.

day 48 - brick wall

day 47 - moon over danforth #2

i'm one day late...astounding how life could get stymied without the darn internet... but here's my day 47 photograph. the sun was setting and at the same time beaming on the moon. on a clear day, you can almost see forever, in this case, the moon.

day 46 - little green apples

anyone remembers the glenn campbell song that goes "God didn't make the little green apples, and it don't rain in Indianapolis in the summer time; and there's no such thing as Dr. Seuss or Disney Land and Mother Goose, no nursery rhymes." i saw this bunch of apples at the canyon creek on front street and the song just got stuck in my head.

day 45 - on a clear day

it's a beautiful spring afternoon, the sky is clear and although it is a bit on the cool side, with the bright setting sun, it just felt glorious! i spied a little starling on top of the street lamp and with the clear blue sky as background you can actually make out the shape of the starling's beak.

day 44 - igor the monkey

there's a new dessert in town. if you go to union station, they're giving these for free. but i was told it wasn't good. the packaging looks good and effective, and the monkey looks like someone from the simpsons, eh?

day 43 - door knocker

brings to mind a real woodpecker i've seen about 10 years ago, furiously pecking at the television antennae of our farm house; the whole day it just kept on pecking at the steel rod.

i was in london (ontario) today at the western fairgrounds and i saw this antique train on display on dundas street just before you get inside the fairgrounds proper. it called to mind this paul simon song. i know, ever since i was a young girl back in the old country, hearing the distant sound of the trains evoked (and even today) fantasies of far travels and adventures.

day 40 - eight

tonight, we celebrated my grandson's eighth birthday. i got him this "8" helium balloon and four other smaller ones. that's not him in the picture, though, that's 'mr. bean'.

day 39 - moon over danforth

it might as well be a late spring night - the sun setting well after seven and there's a sliver of a moon above. spring is definitely in the air!

day 38 - who's driving?

i meant to post this last weekend but got lost in the shuffle. a big dog was on the driver's seat of this red van. he was just sitting rather cooly, quietly looking at people, turning his head once in a while, or glancing at the rear view mirror like the bugger is actually driving. but when i took his picture, it barked, i got rattled so i didn't take anymore pic. but it was so amazing watching him. i wish i had taken a better shot, though.

day 37 - sun setting on the danforth

beautiful weather, almost clear blue skies, at 7 in the evening, long shadows cast on the intersection of danforth and monarch avenues, looking towards the east; an unusually quiet danforth.

day 36 - at the market

a mural depicting a marketplace scene from the old days.

day 35 - who are you running for?

there is a reminder on my door that i should register early for the "run for the cure" that's scheduled for october 3.

day 34 - what to do?!?

it's shitty outside and i won't dare go out. so i opt to laze around and enjoy the quiet of my apartment while the partner is away somewhere.
one of the few wise purchases i've made in my life - a set of bavarian porcelain china that i purchased 22 years ago. expensive and pretty to look at, but i actually use them, when there's good company. so far only one piece of fruit nappy had broken, and i wasn't even the one who broke it. there's a name for this personal treasure: sam's inheritance :-)

day 33 - yellow carnation

the tulips had withered and died; but jimbo got me some yellow carnations and i arranged them together with the leftover bamboo stems from the previous flower arrangement (see day 13) i had. i just love flowers, especially when they don't give me allergies.

day 32 - mural #1

the cheesemaker - in old italy perhaps? this is a mural inside a restaurant in uptown toronto. there is no indication of the artist. if anyone knows, would appreciate your giving me the info so i can duly acknowledge the artist(s).

day 31 - a schooner

a very dear friend took me out tonight to a restaurant called "bumpkins" - on a street two blocks south of yonge from bloor street on the east side - an impressive steak, seafood and pasta restaurant. the food was excellent and service was exceptional in that they let you linger for as long as you need or want, they won't make you cram. and that made the dinner really relaxing and enjoyable. this model schooner was on display on a mantle just above the wood fireplace and it reminded me of when my siblings and i were little children and our father made boat and airplane models.

day 30 - maple farming

a painting by frank panabaker, hanging in my living room. i'm kind of getting used to it, i guess after five years, i should.

day 29 - a work of art

this painting was on display in an art shop along queen street west of mclean's in the beaches. the scene evokes warm summer days. we are eagerly waiting for the warm/hot days due to start in, hopefully, a few weeks time. bring it on!

yellow tulips are my favourite flowers, ever! so simple yet lively. in my next life i would like to be a yellow tulip.

day 25 - twins?

on sale at loblaws - two for six dollars. my favorite dip for chips and nachos. yummy yum yum!

day 24 - billboard

coming out of my apartment building, to the east, this is what you see first and foremost. i can even see it from my living room window. doesn't that pizza look just delicious? yummy!

day 23 - i can see you!!!!

took this as the red light was just turning green at the intersection of danforth and donlands. i turned sideways and saw this big truck with this poster; didn't have a chance to see what it was for or about...he looks like the nerd version of the "yo quiero taco bell" chihuahua.

day 22 - offerings to the gods

at congee queen, this tray was before the small altar just as you enter the restaurant doors. the gods must be hungry - steamed duck, roasted pork, oranges and..what the...green bananas?
