day 113 - iris

lovely lilac-coloured irises and two-toned yellow and mauve irises. pretty! i love iris flowers.

day 112 - oh, toronto!

this is downtown toronto, captured through our van's dirty windshield on this gorgeous sunny day. it seems the CN tower and the surrounding buildings are rising from the concrete grounds of the gardiner expressway. yes, the van needs a car wash. desperately.

day 111 - an old parisienne

plying the route on coxwell, on a hot sunny afternoon.

day 110 - an oriental art

this artwork, made of beads and gold threads, hangs on the wall of a thai restaurant.

day 109 - shasta daisies

no, it's not a mistake. this picture is correctly posted. the daisies were growing horizontally, across the pebbled pathway that i literally had to jump over them so i don't step on them. this was in a large garden with just this type of daisy all over. beautiful!

day 108 - murals

a mural painting of a river market, typical in some parts of asia, particularly in thailand, china, vietnam and thereabouts.

day 107 - blue iris

these irises were a breath of new colours in a rough patch with just greens around it. lovely, isn't it? i love iris flowers, particularly the blue ones or the light purple ones.

day 106 - la pieta

a sculpture replicating 'la pieta' stands at the entrance to St. Isidore's Cemetery in Bloomingdale, Illinois, beside the St. Isidore's church.

day 105 - "peace"

in the garden at the back of a church in bloomingdale, illinois, there is a small brick column with inscriptions that says "peace", "salaam", and "shalom" amidst the flora and fauna. there you can sit and simply enjoy the peace and quiet of the garden, in the company of beautiful flowers, and today, amidst the bright and warmth of sunshine.

day 104 - flowers for erica

the decor roses were made of sugar and lard for the ube (taro) cake; the cake we transported from toronto to carol stream in illinois; the cake we transported in the red PT cruiser, but not after we got a full and complete multiple inspection at the US border. damn that red car, first time i saw i knew it was trouble. but the cake was sooooo good!!!

day 103 - bunches of lottery tickets

losing ones, of course. this is what my brother has in their house - lottery tickets everywhere. oh, to remind one's self that you have lost soooo much.

day 102 - shoes...summer shoes

pretty heeled shoes for my wide ugly feet...but who cares, i see women with much worse looking feet than mine and they wear unflattering shoes. it's all in the wearer's bearing and the clothes worn. ah bastaya! if i had nice feet and could wear any style of shoes, i'd be worse than imelda marcos, i swear to you.

day 101 - mango for breakfast

yes! i had, rather, i am having one of the suckers this morning for breakfast. every bit is so sweet, you won't believe it. and by the way this kind is from ataulfo (mexico) and is very similar to the original philippine variety (i say original because when i went to mexico a long time ago, i learned that the first mango trees in mexico were brought there by the spanish friars from the philippines. the philippine variety is much sweeter and softer and the skin much thinner. but this one is close enough since it is cheaper to import from mexico than from the philippines. i was told. my facts might be wrong. in any case, i love ripe mangoes!!!!

you can serve ripe mango with prosciutto (spelling?) ham, to make for an attractive and delicious appetizer; or serve it with shrimp cocktail. you can also eat it with steamed sticky rice and soy sauce, or you can make a nice mango chiffon pie with it.

day 100 - wow!

wow! for the 100th day and 100 photographs posted. i know i have some not so nice photos posted but the sum total is still that i have disciplined myself to post everyday, notwithstanding those few times i had been late because of my connection problems. i think from now on i will strive to post better pictures with better subjects. wow! also for the mangoes which i will be eating tonight and tomorrow morning and tomorrow night. wow! and here's to the next 100.

day 99 - mystery print

it's a fabric print. sometimes you get a dress and all you remember of it is the colour. one day, after so many washings, you realize what those prints are. and that's what happened.

day 98 - guinness

this is a mural on a building which houses an irish pub in danforth west of greenwood ave.

day 97 - a pink Bentley

my niece was raving about a "pink Bentley" whilst we were at the parking lot of price choppers on mccowan and ellesmere this afternoon. so i took a picture. it's not really pink, it's salmon pink or pink bordering on ecru. see the mercedes behind? the mercedes is white, the bentley is salmon pink.

day 96 - another work of art

this reminds me of a communist politburo. it's kind of dark and morbid, what with the blood on the table. either someone not in the picture had been sentenced to death, or the man sitting down at the table had been sentenced to drink some blood and he didn't like the taste. eeeekkkk!!

day 95 - white climatis

light lavender, dark purple, pink, mauve, and dark maroon. i've seen yellow but first time i've seen white climatis. pure white, angel white climatis. wonder if there is orange? c'est possible, bien sur!

day 94 - does this look appetizing to you? HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CYNCH!

tiny boconcini cheese with pesto sauce. cole slaw with dried cranberry. pineapple, carrot, celery and jello. all made from scratch and served on a white and blue china plate. they all tasted good and when you're vegetarian and there's nothing else to eat but these and a portion of a dead animal, you choose the non-descript salads and sides. everyone else can have the dead animal. eeeek!
